A unique learning programme called Life Oriented Inquiry Curriculum was introduced in the year 1995 in the lower classes i.e., from LKG to Std V. It aims at freeing children from the heavily loaded School Bag, Text Books and the overburdened Note Books. It makes learning, more creative and full of fun. School is a place for adventure and creative thinking. An environment for healthy learning is created.

The school prepares its own lessons and evaluates its learners through a systematic evaluations. Stress is laid on the Teacher – Child – Parent relationship and participation in all activities is a must. Education is a preparation for life and an adjustment to the environment.

The environment is – home, school and outdoors. It is the human experience that help us to learn and adjustment to the environment. The school should not create an artificial environment, but stimulating place where the learner can look, understand, think, discover and find the answer to his question, with the help of teacher. In this programme, there are no class rooms, but only Learning Centers, which provide all the materials for teaching and learning process. Audio Visual Learning is also a part of the curriculum. Art & Craft, Our Cultural – Traditions, Heritage, Yoga, Music, Dance, Drama, Story Writing and Story Reading, are integrated into the curriculum. The School Magazine “Creative Impression”, is the outcome of the learner’s creativity and originality. The programme helps the learner to enhance his hidden potentials.

Our Priority is to see that the students are molded into good citizens who will honor and uphold the integrity of the school and nation. Our endeavor is also to develop academic excellence, social skills and participate in co-curricular activities. We try and give a balanced environment, where the basic moral values are imbibed by the students, for a meaningful, responsible and active learning. The Management of the school is ever keen to make the institutions into model schools and are open to suggestions from parents, well wishers and others interested in the welfare of the school and students.

Mr.Tushar R. Kikani

Kikani Institutions

It has been a long laudable, glorious 50 years of service to the nation. 50 years of allegiance to imparting quality education. Reflecting back, I was not even born when the foundation stones of this mighty institution were laid by my forefathers. Two great souls, Shri Krishnadas Kikani and Shri Gopaldas Kikani, who strove against all odds to make their dreams come true. Toe great minds, who believed, that every child deserves an education regardless of their circumstances.

It was their firm belief that “Education is a wealth that no youth, can be robbed off” .They wanted each child to be endowed with this priceless treasure. Today because of their strong Beliefs and Convictions, we celebrate 50 Golden years of this stalwart institution. I am filled with a sense of pride, nostalgia and exultation in being associated with my forefather dreams and in carrying their legacy forward.

I have always felt that a Jubilee is very akin to an Anniversary. A time for taking stock. A time for celebration and retrospection. A time to reflect in our past, analyse the present and plan for an even better tomorrow. Analyzing the past, the history of the school was littered with challenges and hardships right from day one.

I salute and congratulate all the past trustees and teachers who braved many a challenge undautingly and put this school on a trajectory of growth and success. The results are there for all of us to see. The school today stands tall as one of the most elite, reputed educational Institutions in the city of Coimbatore.

A perfect launching pad has been put in place in face the challenges of the future. Incidentally, this year our country completes 60 years of Independence. Hidden under is an entire new generation, a youthful India that has begun to dream differently, and that is willing to go that x-tra Mile to achieve their goals.

This generation is placed with tremendous advantages in scientific, technological and other improvements in all fields. This was not imaginable until a few years back. We at Kikani Institutions will strive to work with the students, to enhance their capability and thinking power beyond the class room, in such a manner that they face the challenges independently and confidently.

In the process each kikanian will be reinforced certain worthy principles, virtues, ethics and character. The student needs to be emphasized that education is not only for the mind, but should illuminate his soul.

I very strongly and convincingly believe that Life has a far greater aim than merely making money, enjoying a few physical comforts, pleasures and luxuries. We need to give back to society in equal measures and help the under privileged through charitable acts. It will not be out of place for me to bring in the aspect of religion and faith in our present day youth.

I am a strong believer that no matter how hard one works, or how much talent one has one need Divine intervention for things to go one’s way. Our past president Dr. S. Radhakrishnan said that “Physical efficiency and Intellectual alertness are very dangerous if spiritual illiteracy prevails” I therefore urge the students to ignite that spiritual flame in them. Spirituality in no way guarantees a life free of difficulties, sorrows or troubles, but it provides that inner strength confidence and courage to tackle all human crisis that come our way and emerge victorious.

I wish to conclude by reminding education and all the process of educating involves students, teachers, parents, administrators and the environment. We will aim to churn out students who can fulfill their hopes and dreams, who can be of great service to society and above all Great Citizens of this Great Nation.

With the able guidance and co-operation of Board of Trustees and the support of the Teachers we hope to transform this centre into a World class Intuition of Excellence of the youth.

Shri Tushar R. Kikani

Kikani Institutions.

Coimbatore was one of the centres where the earliest band of Gujarathis began trading with their characteristic efficiency in all leading commodities. The Gujarathis along with others have played an important role in building up trade in cotton and textiles by virtue of which this town ranks as one of the foremost industrial and commercial cities of India.

Wisdom – the educator- wise person is honored everywhere, while the king is honored only in his own country. With a noble vision to educate thousands, a Gujrathi Vidyalaya was inaugurated on 10th Oct 1951 by Sri Mooljee Ramjee the then Managing Director of the Trichinopoly Textile Limited of Trichinopoly. The munificent offer made by Late Sri Kishandas Kikani and late Gopaldas Kikani led the school being named Shri Baldevdas Kikani Gujrathi Vidyamandir with the moral support of Sri Ramanlal P.Dave. The Kikani brothers assumed the responsibility of developing the school into a model institution.

In 1955 the SBKV Trust was formed and registered, for the smooth development of the school and providing higher education for the children, with the following trustees:

  • 1. Shri Kishandas Mohanlal Kikani
  • 2. Gokuldas Tulsidas Raichura
  • 3. Ramanlal Pujaram Dave
  • 4. Moonjee Gopalji Purjara

The trustees acquired a valuable site, with a series of contributions made by the Kikanis, for the construction of a suitable building for the school. On April 15 1956 Thiru C Subramaniam, the then Minister of Education and Finance, was gracious enough to lay the foundation stone for the building in the newly acquired site. With the blessings of industrialists and Shri Chinnasamy Naidu of Mani Higher Secondary School the building was constructed and the school started functioning in the new building from June 1957 as a State aided school with a minimum strength of 285 students. Shri Ramasamy Naidu and Shri G. Swaminathan were appointed as the Head Master and Asst Head Master respectively. Thereafter it was Golden years for the Kikani School. True to the motto ‘Unity in Diversity’, the Gujarathi school was thrown open as a Pedagogy Park for the people of Coimbatore. Education is not merely imparting Knowledge but removing ignorance. The trustees and management took great pleasure in giving opportunity for thousands of students.

The school thus grew year after year and earned a good name. Plans for the extension of the buildings were made out and on 25.01.1958 Shri
G.K Devarajulu Naidu
, a, leading industrialist of the town and a great well wisher of this institution lay the foundation stone. The first floor of the western block and ground floor of the southern block were then built and also a beautiful high tower clock was provided which not only adorns the building but also renders time sense to the people of neighborhood.

This institution has been a place of attraction to various educationists and has been the centre for many seminars, workshops and exhibitions. It was at this time that Shri Gopaldas Kikani took over the reins of the management after the sudden demise of Shri Kishandas KIkani on 2 May 1963. In his memory was arranged free distribution of books to all children of the school on 16th June 1964 through the hands of Thiru N.D Sundaravadivelu the then Director of Public Instruction. This occasion was used to create a BOOK-BANK in the school. Used books were collected and distributed free of cost to the needy pupils of the local schools. The cooperation of various Head masters contributed to the success of this venture.

Shri Gopaldas Kikani handed over the Correspondent ship to his able nephew Shri Arvind K Kikani on 25th June 1967 but took abiding interest as Managing trustee. Shri Arvind Kikani worked tirelessly as the Correspondent of the Higher Secondary School and Matriculation Higher Secondary School for forty years and under his leadership and guidance the school reached the peak of its glory.

A proud achievement in the annals of the school was when Thiru. S Ramaswami Naidu, the head master of the High School was selected to receive the National Award for Teachers in 1966-67. Needless to say, following the tradition of the trustees, Thiru S. Ramaswami Naidu donated the award amount to the school and this generous gesture was responded to by the management who donated an equal amount to create an endowment viz., Headmaster Ramaswamy Naidu National Award Commemoration Prize.

Another memorable event was the consecration of the beautiful temple of Lord Ganesha built inside the school campus, just at the entrance. This temple was again a contribution from the Kikani family in memory of Late Shri Kishandas Kikani. With the efforts of Thiru G Swaminathan a new bore-well was dug and a pumpset installed to augment water supply to the school.

During the early 70s, the institution was growing rapidly and felt the dire need for greater accommodation. Generous contributions enabled the management to complete the first floor of the Southern Block with its artistic finish and open air theatre. The Hon’ble Thiru M. Karunanidhi, the then Chief Minister of Tamilnadu inaugurated it. It was also during this time that NCC-Air Wing was introduced and by now the strength of the school had touched 1500. The school grew from strength to strength and in 1972 the school was expanded on the northern frontier. The school was at the peak of its glory under the leadership of Thiru G Swaminathan who took over as the school headmaster from Shri.Ramswami Naidu. He was a dynamic person, strict disciplinarian with multi-linguistic ability. In October 1977 he received the National Award for Teachers ( 1975-76) for his outstanding work as Headmaster. He retired from service on 31.12.81 It was in his tenure in the year 1978 that Kikani High School was upgraded to Higher Secondary school.

Twenty five years of service! The silver jubilee celebration of the Kikani Institutions was celebrated with great pomp and show on 8 Feb 1981. The function was graced by C Aranganayakam , the then Minister for Education. Another feather to the cap was when Thiru D Venkatesan, who took over from Thiru G Swaminathan as Headmaster, received the State award for the Best Teacher.

In the year 1992 Kikani Preparatory school was upgraded to a full-fledged Matriculation school and in 1997 the first batch appeared for the Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board Examination and all passed in first class.

To bring out the learners creativity in art and writing the school magazine ‘CREATIVE IMPRESSION‘ was published in 1993 and in 1995 an innovative curriculum called LIFE ORIENTED INQUIRY CURRICULUM was introduced from LKG to Class 5 to do away with heavily loaded bags and text books. And this programme is going strong day by day. Yoga and Meditation was also introduced to give a holistic development to the students.

A long felt desire to build a separate block to house the KG students came into reality in 1998 and KINDERGARTEN block was inaugurated by
Dr. B.Ilango, Vice Chancellor, Bharathiyar University. Bowing down to pressure from parents and students, Kikani Matriculation school was upgraded to Kikani Matriculation Higher Secondary School and a new building to house the Higher Secondary Block was inaugurated by Pujya Shree Dayananda Saraswathi .

2006-2007 saw a yearlong celebrations towards 50 years of selfless service to the people of Coimbatore. This year also saw Mr.Tushar Kikani, a dynamic visionary , taking over as the correspondent and who is now steering the school to further heights keeping his goal towards learning.

2011 saw the institutions branching out into CBSE stream (alongside with State Board and Matric Board) bowing to the steady demand from the parents. The school functions in the same campus and is well equipped to meet the growing demands. As of now it caters till STD 12th (Higher secondary).
